RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA (BNO NEWS) – A former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) contractor was re-sentenced to 80 months in prison and three years of supervised release for assault inflicting serious bodily injury in Raleigh, North Carolina, U.S. District Attorney George Holding announced on Tuesday.

David A. Passaro was convicted on August 17, 2006 for his role in the death of Abdul Wali, an Afghan male, on June 21, 2003. Passaro was sentenced to 100 months of imprisonment. He was working at a forward operating base in Afghanistan.

Passaro was asked to interrogate a local man. The victim died during the course of the interrogation. However, an autopsy was not conducted because of strong cultural objections of the Afghan population.

The defendant issued an appeal of his trial conviction. The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit affirmed the conviction and imposed a new sentence based on certain aspects of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
