Florida launches Energy Star appliance rebate web site
April 9th, 2010 - 11:53 pm ICT by BNO NewsTALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA (BNO NEWS) – Florida launched a web site designed for citizens who want to learn how to receive an ENERGY STAR appliance rebate, getting discounts starting next week, Governor Charlie Crist announced on Friday.
Approximately 68,000 energy-efficient appliances will have discounts between April 16 and April 25. These sales are expected to add at least $62 million into Florida’s economy.
“Making these purchases this month will benefit consumers, businesses and our entire state economy, as well as increase energy and water savings for years to come,” Governor Crist said.
Consumers can receive rebates of up to $1,500 per household. That amount includes a 20 percent off the retail price as well as $75 toward recycling the old appliance. However, there is a limited amount of available rebate funds.
Rebates will be given in the form of an American Express Prepaid Card, which has no fees for monthly servicing or card replacement, and the funds on the card never expire. The prepaid card can be exchanged for a check or an electronic funds transfer.
The rebate program is made possible by a grant from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and is administered by the Florida Energy and Climate Commission and the Governor’s Energy Office.
