February 4th, 2010 - 3:52 pm ICT by BNO NewsMOUNTAIN HOME, IDAHO (BNO NEWS) — A five-year-old boy accidentally shot a 16-year-old boy while playing with his parent’s gun outside his Mountain Home, Idaho home on Wednesday, officials said.
Sergeant Rick Viola of the Mountain Home Police Department said police responded to a phone call of shots fired around 11.18 a.m. local time. When officers arrived on the scene, an injured 16-year-old male was found on the ground in the area.
An investigation determined that the shot originated from a backyard about 7,500 yards away, where a five-year-old boy was playing with a nine-millimeter gun. Viola said the boy found his parent’s gun, took it out of the casing, and went outside to play with it.
The 16-year-old victim was taken to a Boise hospital where he remains in serious condition.
Viola said, although it is still early into the investigation, charges are being considered against the parents.
