Five dead in head-on collision near Zanesville, OH

ZANESVILLE, OHIO (BNO NEWS) – Five people were confirmed dead as a result of a head-on collision on Interstate 70 near Zanesville, Ohio, the Ohio State Highway Patrol announced on Wednesday.

Two vehicles crashed in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near milepost 147 in Muskingum County. Initial investigation indicates that a car, traveling in the westbound lanes, suddenly crossed the median and struck a minivan head-on.

Inside the car there were five passengers, all of them died as a result of the crash. The minivan was occupied by the driver only. He was in serious condition and was transported to a hospital by Emergency Medical Services personnel.

The minivan driver has recovered apparently and appears to be uninjured. The causes of the crash are being investigated as well as the identities of the deceased. Interstate 70 has been closed in the eastbound from the Brownsville Road exit in Licking County.
