Washington, June 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The speech of President Barack Obama that he delivered from the oval office yesterday was watched by the politicians and residents with rapt attention.
The reactions to his much awaited speech, however, have been quite mixed. In his speech the President lashed out at the oil giant BP that has failed to stop the oil leak at the Deepwater Horizon rig at the Gulf of Mexico. He tried to sound assuring in his speech but it has not gone down well with the worst sufferers from the leakage- the fishermen community.
The Louisiana coastline is being threatened by this tragedy which has taken its toll on the wildlife already. The anger and frustration of the residents are on the rise owing to the fact that the government is still relying on BP to stop the spill even though it has missed a number of deadlines.
The coastline water in Louisiana is becoming toxic and the fishermen have been banned from fishing. The fishermen who saw the oval office speech given by the President found it hardly interesting. All they want to know when they can resume fishing along the coastline.
The speech made it clear that the government can do little to stop the spill. The compensation that BP is going to pay according to the Oval office speech of the president did not make the fisher men cheerful. They watched the speech in stoic silence. Some of them said later that the oil spill has affected their livelihood deeply and they feel the impact is far greater than that of Hurricane Katrina which struck the USA 5 years back.
