Alps, Nov 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A federal court in Switzerland has ruled that the country’s authorities can fine people who hike naked in the Alps. With the ruling, the country has been given the power to ban nude hiking which has become one of the fastest growing trends in the region.

The court was called in to decide the issue after a man challenged being fined for hiking naked. The man was ordered to pay 100 Swiss francs ($109) but he challenged the case at the federal court alleging that it infringed on his liberties. The Swiss laws are silent on public nudity but a section of the law frowns on indecency in the public.

The court ruled that, “It is not overly high-handed to qualify naked hiking as a breach of decency customs.”

Hiking naked has been popularized at the Swiss Alps lately. The region is one of the most conservative in the country and according to BBC it was only in 1990 that women were recognized as voters. The people are reportedly troubled by the growing trend in the region.

With the law, the residents of the Appenzell region will keep their eyes on catching people who makes life uncomfortable for them. The region remains one of the famous tourist destinations in the world.
