A twister has hit Arkansas killing three people. According to weather reports, a powerful tornado hit the town of Mena, Arkansas, on Thursday, killing at least three people. The powerful tornado has reportedly destroyed more than 100 homes. The scenario at the town is desolate. It looks like there was a war, army tanks shelled the place, and aerial bombing did the better part of the damage. The tornado, however, ripped through the town, destroyed homes, shattered widows, and buildings and killed 3.
According to James Reeves of Polk County’s Department of Emergency Management, “Mena looks like a war zone“. Mena is located in Polk County near the Arkansas/Oklahoma state line. Power and gas supply lines have been knocked out in the western half of the city, officials say. Emergency services and local authorities have mobilized efforts and set up three shelters though only about 50 people have sought refuge. Many of those affected are with friends and families.
The dead were elderly people.. Two of them died when their collapsed killing them. Officials on the ground have reported 22 serious injuries as causalities so far. A door-to-door search is ongoing to check on those who might be stuck in debris. Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe sent 30 National Guard soldiers to the town on Thursday, with 20 more
