July 7, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The federal administration of America, headed by President Obama, has launched a lawsuit against the notorious immigration law of Arizona, a state which is governed by the right-wing Republican Party. The Obama administration has asserted that the Arizonian law presents a challenge to the federal authorities and appropriates the federal jurisdiction to curb unconstitutional immigration. The lawsuit has also declared that the Arizonian law chips away at the federal hunt for terrorists and other felon immigrants.
Immigration has certainly become a contentious issue in American politics, with enormous volatility. The American Justice Department has also requested the federal court at Phoenix in Arizona to discharge an order to prohibit the operationalization of the Arizonian law before it is listed to go into operation on July 29.
The divisiveness of the law stems from the fact that it necessitates that immigrants possess their alien registration papers with them at every moment. The law authorizes the police officers to query the citizenship standing of persons in the course of operationalizing another law. It also assails businesses that take into service unlawful immigrant workers.
The federal lawsuit has declared that the American constitution has expressly bequeathed, to the federal government, the authority to control immigration. The lawsuit urged the judiciary to invalidate the Arizonian law as it had inappropriately obstructed federal command.
Additional court cases have been initiated by civil rights organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). These court cases seek the judicial nullification of the Arizonian law.
American Attorney General, Eric Holder, has acknowledged that the legal Arizonian populace is losing patience with unlawful immigration. However, Holder mentioned that the diversion of federal wherewithal away from perilous foreigners such as terror suspects and foreigners with unlawful records will have a detrimental effect on American wellbeing.
It has been reported that the lawsuit of the Justice Department is also zoomed in on stopping a surge of laws, similar to the Arizonian one, which are being discussed in other American states. The White House has divulged that the resolution to challenge the Arizonian law was wholly left up to Holder and the attorneys at the American Justice Department. Nonetheless, the repercussions of this challenge could be consequential for Obama and his Democratic Party in view of the mid-term elections in November this year. Obama has reportedly been counseled by party strategists to refrain from outspokenly endorsing the lawsuit of the Justice Department. Instead, he is likely to emphasize the necessity of wide-ranging immigration restructuring. As per opinion polls, the Arizonian law continues to be well-liked by many Arizonians.
