KANSAS CITY (BNO NEWS) – A Kansas City man pleaded guilty to an attempted bank robbery and carrying a firearm, prosecutors said Monday.

Paul G. Rayford, 33, of Kansas City, and another man approached the Interstate Federal Savings Bank in Kansas City wearing masks, but two FBI agents inside the bank locked the doors to keep them out, arresting three men while they were trying to leave the parking lot.

Rayford and two other men had been under surveillance by the FBI before they attempted to rob the bank. He is now facing a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000 on the attempted bank robbery charge and a penalty of at least five years, consecutive to other sentences, on the firearms charge.

Kenneth Rayford, 59 and Claude White, 30, both of Kansas City were also indicted in the case.
