FBI Arrests 10 Ordinary Americans For Being Russian Agents
June 29th, 2010 - 7:17 pm ICT by Pen Men At WorkJune 29, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The US Intelligence has taken 10 seemingly ordinary American citizens into custody after conveying that they had been working as undercover agents for Russia. 10, so called Russian agents, have been arrested from various localities.
The Federal agents brought charges of espionage stating that they had all lived under false names and identities biding their time and waiting patiently. They had been specifically instructed by the Russian agencies to penetrate deeply into the upper echelons of America’s policy making circles.
FBI, begun looking for the ‘illegals’ or the Russian spies after learning of the S.V.R. plot of planting spies deep within America. The S.V.R is also an agency for espionage and is thought to be the successor of the KGB.
The long term program by the SVR required its agents to gather information on varied fields as well as to recruit suitable agents. The information collected may have included data on the US policy on nuclear weapons, the Congressional politics, leadership of the CIA as well as the American policy on Iran.
The FBI decided to close in, this weekend, after keeping the suspects under surveillance for a considerable period of time. However, President Obama is not happy about the timing of the entire procedure as it came too soon after a visit by the Russian Premier, Dmitri A. Medvedev. The FBI, on the other hand, chose not to wait any longer as they feared that the 5 couples might flee the country.
While the news of the arrests had been carried by the state controlled television channel in Moscow, the officials of the Russian Foreign Office refused to comment on the issue.
