Nov. 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On October 31, CNN aired a show called “Black Men In The Age Of President Obama.” The show was hosted by Don Lemon. It aired at 10:00p.m. The show was an hour special and was presented by Essence Magazine. The show had guests from various fields. There were DJ Drama, a recording artist, Bishop Eddie Long, businessman Steve Perry, a senior from Morehouse called Tyrone McGowan and academician, author and entrepreneur Farrah Gray.
The show featured a discussion on the position of the blacks in this society, especially in the light of the fact that the newly elected president of the country is himself a Black American. The discussion marked the first anniversary of the president’s election. The discussion was recorded at the Morehouse College’s King’s Chapel earlier in October.
The various panelists in the show were meant to represent the various sections of the society. DJ Drama was there to represent the point of view of the hip hop community, as Gray was to talk about blacks in the field of academics. DJ Drama also presented his own [bi-racial] views on the position of the community. The show hosted a discussion among all the guests about the changes, if any, brought about in their lives- following the president’s election in 2008. The panelists discussed about the changes the election has brought in their positions in the workplaces, families and communities.
The show highlighted the impact the Black president’s election has brought about in the workplaces, health-care and familial structures of the black citizens of the country. The show delved into the fact that at the age of having a black president, “everything is possible, but nothing is guaranteed.”
