Oct 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Farm Aid took place on Oct 2 at Milwaukee’s Miller Park and was attended by 40,000 people. The concert this year has 15 acts and was held for the first time in 1985 in Campaign, Illinois and is said to have been inspired by Bob Dylan. The concert since then has raised $50 million to help out the aggressive farmers and endorse conservational agriculture. The founders of the program are Willie Nelson, John Mellen camp and Neil young who have been carrying out the good work for 25 years now. The concert provided the concert goers a chance to meet with the farmers and learn the ways in which the farmers carry out organic farming.
The event has Neil Young emphasizing on the concept of sustainability every year and and this year’s theme featured family farm ingredients at concessions. The concert can be seen as a way of promoting environment friendly conditions while boosting the well being of the agricultural well being of the farmers. Bob Dylan happened to say in a concert once that he hoped that a small part of the money is given to the farmers and thus the concept to help them out was born.
The concert organizers have tie ups with many organizations and they praise family farms while criticizing corporate farms as being greedy and environment polluters. Willie Nelson said in the concert that it is important for us to know where our food comes from and if it comes from organic farming we can be sure that it is more healthy compared to the food grown by the corporate run farms.
