Fancy Intense Pink Diamond Sold At Whooping $46 million

pinkNov 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Laurence Graff, a London jeweler paid a whooping $46,158,674, for the 24.78-carat pink diamond. The eyewitnesses reported that the diamond was “fancy intense pink” and Laurence Graff called the diamond as “The Graff Pink”. The media sources reported that the rare diamond set a world record for a jewel auction last Tuesday.

Laurence Graff told in his interview that the pink diamond is the most “fabulous” diamond he has ever seen in his life and he is delighted to have bought such a precious thing. Previously Laurence Graff paid $24.3 million to buy a 35.56-carat Wittelsbach-Graff diamond in 2008. David Bennett, the head of Sotheby’s jewelry division said that the cost of the pink diamond is the highest bid for a jewel at auction. The auction took place in Beau Rivage hotel in Geneva. Mart van Drunen, an Amsterdam jeweler said that everybody present at the auction was surprised as the price went to high for the diamond. About Laurence Graff, Mart van Drunen said that the London jeweler wants to have all the “rarest diamonds” in the whole world.

The London jeweler Laurence Graff told the reporters that the media should determine the health of the recent market with these price tags. However, for an Israeli diamond merchant, the price of the diamond seemed “crazy”. David Bennett, on the other hand said that extraordinary articles always demand extraordinary prices and pink diamond is no exception. He described the diamond as absolutely “exceptional” and added that he simply loved that diamond. Harry Winston, a New York jeweler bought pink diamond 60 years ago where four dealers competed. However, the name of that seller is still unknown.
