May 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Four members of a family were found dead Tuesday, one day after the earth swallowed their home in a freak incident. In a story I wrote yesterday, it was revealed that the family of four were missing, and rescue workers were trying to get into the home.

The house had partially collapsed into a sudden giant sinkhole which swallowed the home within minutes as they watched television in the basement. The town of St Jude which has about 1000 people located near the Yamaska River is in shock, since these sinkholes do not normally occur in this area. A sinkhole formed and took the house, along with it’s occupants. Although the house was a good distance away from the river, the house, three cars in front of it, and part of the road were all swallowed. “It’s a pretty gigantic crater,” said Francois Gregoire, a Quebec fire department spokesman. “It’s hard imagining something like this. It’s pretty impressive.”

The rescue workers found the bodies of the Prefontaine family, first locating Richard Prefontaine. Later, they retrieved the remains of his wife Lynne Charbonneau, and daughters Anais, 9, and Amelie, who was believed to be 11years old. They were said t have been watching television, cheering on the Montreal Canadiens is a playoff game when the ground under their home caved in. Their family dog, Roxy was found by rescuers and is being taken care of by relatives.
