Feb 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Facebook, the social networking site has never been limited to only networking. Perhaps that is the reason why it is one of the most popular sites. From addictive games like “Farmville” and “Yoville” to brainstorming cross words puzzles and “Fortune cookies” which tells what is in store for today, to exchanging virtual gifts amongst friends; the site has various reasons for keeping its member hooked to it. The latest trend “Doppelganger Week” which means one can swap their picture with a celebrity they think they look like is a big hit.
“Doppelganger” is a German word which literary means the look alike or the double of a particular person. The doppelganger meme says that if you are told by your friends or you think that you look like some celebrity then change your picture and put the snap of the celebrity instead. If you think you resemble more than one celebrity then change your profile picture everyday. It is really fun. It has already become as popular as the “color status updates,” which was started in order to spread breast cancer awareness. However, unlike the color meme, both men and women can participate in this new meme and have fun.
Though the doppelganger fever is ever raging, CNET warns, “Doppelganger Week” may violate Facebook’s terms of service. It says, you should not post content or take an action on Facebook that “infringes or violates someone else’s rights or otherwise violates the law.” The trend was apparently started by Bob Patel, a man who was told by his friends that he looks like Tom Selleck.
