Facebook Cartoon Character Campaign Nothing to do With NSPCC

Dec 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Yet another campaign has recently swept across the pages of Facebook users, this time claiming to be a stand against child abuse. Similar to the Breast Cancer Awareness campaigns which have raced across the social networking site in the past, this time users were asked to post pictures of their favorite childhood cartoons in an effort to raise awareness against child abuse.

Although most of the requests said nothing about the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), a few of them did mention the group, claiming that the campaign was started by them, but the NSPCC says that the move has nothing to do with them.

This announcement has spurred rumors that the cartoon character campaign was started by pedophiles, in hopes of getting more access to children’s pictures and profiles. These rumors have not been substantiated, and CHRIS (Children Have Rights In Society) has responded to the fear caused by them with the message, “there is absolute no danger involved as long as everyone sticks to the highest security settings and maintain vigilance when adding friend requests”.

Although it is not clear where the message originated, the first messages were said to have been in Greek, and said, “From the 16th to the 20th of November, we shall change our profile pictures to our favourite cartoon characters,” according to ‘Digital Journal’.
