Oct 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Michael Roberts, the commercial pilot of ExpressJet Airlines recently came to limelight when he refused to undergo full body scan at Memphis International Airport, a reputed media source reported. When asked, he said that the he felt uncomfortable walking through the full body scanner. The airport officials also said that Michael Roberts refused to pat down in front of the officials and said that the airport authorities should establish a system which do not interfere in civil rights and their privacy.
When asked, the pilot said that he did exactly what he had been doing over the last four and half years of his career as a pilot. However, Michael Roberts said that this time the security officers tried to “put their hands” on him and this made him feel uncomfortable. The pilot also said that the security officials wanted him to go through the scanner by taking off his shoes and then he refused to go through the scanner. Michael Roberts also refused the secondary screening as for him it is uncomfortable to be “frisked” by a federal government agent everyday on his way to his work.
A reputed media source reported that after the incident the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) asked him to show his driving license, ExpressJet Airline’s phone number and his supervisor’s name as they would file a report with the Transportation Security Operations Center. A TSA spokesperson told a reputed media source that the passengers who deny the advanced screening will have to go through the alternative screening to ensure safety of the airport and if someone refuses it, he will not be able to access the “secure area”. However, Michael Roberts said that he did not want to be harassed or “molested” without a cause.
