kirk1 New York, Feb 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The ex-NY Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik has been sentenced to 4 years behind bars. He was sentenced on Thursday after he pleaded guilty to charges, of speaking the untruth to the George Bush administration officials who vetted his nomination for homeland security secretary. He was sentenced by the U.S. District Judge Stephen Robinson who said that it was necessary to sentence Kerik to 48 months. “With great power comes great responsibility and comes great consequences,” Robinson said in court.

The federal prosecutors had advised that the ex NY Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik be sent behind bars for 27 to 33 months. But apparently the U.S. District Judge Stephen Robinson thought that they were insufficient, and sentenced him to 48 months behind bars.

The 54-year-old Bernard Kerik came to the court accompanied by his wife and son, and he also addressed the court before his sentencing. “I make no excuses,” the former police commissioner said. “I take full responsibility for my actions. I have learned from this. I know I will be punished, but I only wish you would allow me return to my wife and two little girls as soon as possible.” Bernard Kerik was New York Police commissioner from 1998 to 2002.
