Evelyn Lauder dies at the age of 75 years

New York, Nov 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Evelyn Lauder, known for helping to create the pink ribbon in the fight against breast cancer, has died at the age of 75 years. Her company, Estee Lauder Companies, announced that she passed away on Saturday.

The company announced that Lauder died from complications resulting from her battle against ovarian cancer. Along with her husband, Leonard, Lauder helped grow Estee to a worldwide brand in cosmetics.

The couple’s son, William Lauder, told pressmen that, “My mother and father were life partners as well as business partners… My mother carried the torch of our company heritage and the values that were passed to her by my grandmother, Mrs Estee Lauder.”

Born in Austria about 75 years ago, she came to the United States at a very tender age with her parents because of the Nazi occupation of Europe. She schooled in the United States and graduated to become a school teacher in New York. She met her husband while they were both in collage and got married in 1959.

She was part of the team who created the Pink Ribbon in 1992. The symbol has currently grown to become the leading symbol in the fight against breast cancer.
