Evacuation at University in Kennesaw, Georgia Due to Civil War Shell, Now Safe
August 31st, 2010 - 2:17 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonAug 30 (THAINDIAN NEWS) As authorities became afraid that a few Civil War relics, namely a Civil War shell, may be dangerous, a classroom at the Kennesaw State University in Georgia was evacuated early this morning (Monday) according to a report in the ‘Atlanta Journal-Constitution’.
On the website of the school, which is located around 20 miles to the north of Atlanta,Georgia, a statement read, “Some Civil War relics stored on the third floor were noticed as being a potential hazard.”
The Bomb Squad of the Cobb County Police was called in to dispose of the shell safely. The Social Sciences Building and the area within one hundred feet of the area was evacuated at around 11 am EST. The area has now been deemed as safe again.
In another statement from Kennesaw State University, “Once the Cobb EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit) arrived on the scene, they removed the questionable Civil War relics and issued an all-clear to the KSU Police, who notified the campus community it was safe to return to the building.”
