BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT (BNO NEWS) – A woman of Ellington, Connecticut was sentenced to 46 months, little less than 4 years, in a federal prison on two counts of mail fraud and one count of filing a false tax return, U.S. Attorney Nora Dannehy announced on Thursday.

Patricia Baddeley Meehan, 44, worked at Berman and Russo, a law office from South Windsor between 1998 and 2007. She was in charge of real estate closings and was authorized to use signature stamps on checks from the Client Fund Account of the Law Office.

Baddeley Meehan admitted that she planned and executed a scheme to defraud the Law Office. Between 2003 and 2007 she cut checks from the Client Fund Account to pay for her own credit card bills. Records show that she wrote 77 checks for a total of $1,716,128 from previously mentioned account.

Besides the checks, the defendant also filed false tax returns in 2004 and 2005. The Court also sentenced her to three years of supervised release and ordered her to fully repay her former employer and the Internal Revenue Service.
