Elizabeth Smart Recalls Her 2002 Abduction Episode

Anderson Cooper in his conversation with Ed Smart, the father of Elizabeth Smart, who was pretty much abducted abruptly like Jaycee Dugard (who returned back after 18 years of captivity), tried to figure out in retrospect of the similar situations why Dugard had not tried to get back home earlier.
Smart was kidnapped from her bedroom in 2002 and was found 9 months later reportedly. She had suddenly disappeared from her Salt Lake City home in June, when she was 14, and located with street preacher David Mitchell in the Salt Lake City suburbs. Mitchell faced charges for abduction and illegal transportation of the 14 year old in March 2008.
The abduction from the posh locale of Utah city was witnessed by Smart’s sister Mary Katherine, 9 who was so scared of the intruder that she pretended to be asleep when Mitchell threatened Elizabeth with a knife. Mary aggravated the disbelief of her alarmed parents saying “You’re not going to find her. A man took her. A man took her with a gun.” She later tried to help authorities with ambiguous and inept descriptions of an dark haired aged man who wore a golf hat. A massive search organized by the Laura Recovery Center failed to retrieve the girl.
Defense attorneys of Brian David Mitchell, the prime accused in the abduction of Elizabeth Smart have appealed to shorten the hearing by cutting down on the no. of witnesses who verify on the proposition of the mental state of the kidnapper. The lawyers argued that there as a lot of irrelevant talking about Mitchell.
