A spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection stated that he was arrested by them on Wednesday night at around 10 pm and handed over to the FBI.
Michigan resident Elias Abuelazam, 33, was identified as the suspect in the attacks, and a judge in Flint, Michigan where the gruesome trip began last May, signed an official warrant which charged him with the assault with intent to murder in the stabbing which occurred on July 27. Antwoine Marshall, 26, was the victim of the attack. Further charges are pending.
According to the ‘Associated Press’, the FBI came to visit Marshall at 3 am and asked him to identify Elias Abuelazam from a picture of the man who had been arrested in Atlanta. Marshall confirmed that Abuelazam was indeed his attacker.
Abuelazam was arrested at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport as he was trying to board a plane to Israel. Investigators tracked him to the location after the tip, which started in Michigan, lead them to believe that the suspect was in Georgia. The stabbings were reported in Flint, Michigan, Leesburg, Virginia, and Toledo, Ohio.
According to ‘CNN’, the suspect is an Israeli citizen, and was trying to leave the United States and returning to Israel on an expired passport. His police sketch helped citizens identify him and report him to the authorities. When his name was ran through the databases, he was found to be on the flight manifest on the plane to Israel.
