Salmon, April 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Satellite subscribers in Montana and Idaho are being offered free guns in a promotion that has drawn criticism from gun-control campaigners.

RadioShack and Dish Network came up with the promotion promising to hand out a $135 coupon for new subscribers to purchase a single-shot shotgun from a local shop. The promotion is the idea of Steve Strand who is the owner of a RadioShack shop in Montana. Strand believes that his new guns-for-subscriptions program have proved to be a success so far.

In an interview with Reuters, he said that since the promotion began, the company’s sales in Montana have increased threefold.

Strand says he does not see any problem with the problem. He countered critics by saying that Montana and Idaho cannot be compared to a place like New York City.

He said that, “I might not even consider such a program if I were in Detroit city but we have a different demographic out here.”

He revealed that women are turning out to be his biggest customers since the promotion began.

He joked that, “All I can tell you is, grandma is packing a gun in Montana.”
