aleqm5hfqr81hxisidgbjsyu4qyxgfn_ewNov 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Japan based car maker Nissan is banking heavily on the much touted Leaf electric car to boost its image. The company is traditionally viewed at the third spot in its homeland after Toyota and Honda which are its main contenders. The Leaf which is slated to reach U.S. market next month is an all electric car and on a single recharge, it can cover a distance of 80 km, it has been claimed by the company. The company is sure that the car will change the perception of the US consumers with its cutting edge technology and green footprint. The electric cars are getting popular owing to the less carbon footprint they have even though the mass is yet to accept them fully.

A company spokesperson said “Customers don’t always know what Nissan stands for” and added the carmaker wants to be “recognized for innovation, and the Leaf will be the flag”. So far, Toyota and Honda have managed to edge ahead of Nissan in USA in overall sales despite the fact that Nissan makes technologically advanced good quality cars. The Leaf may change the game for them, hopes the company. A few months back the company launched a cleverly conceived ad campaign that showed why its cars are way superior to the cars made by its rival companies.

Nissan is also banking on the fact that its main rival in USA Toyota Motors is now battered by a series of recalls that have tarnished its image to an extent. The Leaf has generated positive pre-release buzz in the market and 20000 models have been pre-booked, the data reveals.
