PARAMARIBO, SURINAME (BNO NEWS) — Eight people were killed on Saturday when a Blue Wing Airline passenger plane crashed in a forest in the South American country of Suriname, authorities said.

The crash happened around 3 p.m. local time in a thick forest about 200 miles (321 kilometers) southeast of the capital of Paramaribo. Police spokesman Humphrey Naarden said six passengers and two crew members were on board and had been killed.

The Antonov An-28 has a total capacity of 18 passengers and 2 crew members.
