eiffel Sep 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Famous French landmark, the Eiffel Tower was the victim of a fake bomb scare that led to the tourist destination and its near surroundings being isolated on Tuesday evening. An unknown person had called to report of a bomb planted in the Paris based Tower but a thorough police search concluded that it was a false alarm. After the false alarm, the beautiful monument has opened again to the public.

More than 2000 people were led to leave the scene and the tower, which is 324 meters long, was thoroughly searched but nothing suspicious was found. By midnight, tourists and residents were seen hanging around the tower, which was visited by 6.6 million people in 2009.

The French media have already declared the scare as a false alarm but the city’s police officials have not commented about it publicly. The scare also caused another favorite tourist spot, the Saint-Michel subway station to be evacuated as well. It may be recalled that 15 years ago, Algerian terrorist blew up the subway station leading to the deaths of 8 people and injuries to hundreds of others.

French intelligence officials believe the country is at a very high risk of a terrorist attack after its colonial history, war in Iraq and recent aggression towards Islamic elements.
