Dublin, Apr 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The tension between the Catholic and the Anglican churches on Sunday became evident through the Easter Sunday sermons that were delivered at different Catholic and Anglican churches. While some of the leaders of the churches took the opportunity of the Easter Sunday sermon to address the Vatican sex scandal which had created not only a public outcry but also divided the churches over the issue, others maintained a skeptical silence over the grim affair.
In both Ireland and Britain, the Easter Sunday sermons became the podium for addressing the issue in some way or the other. Some emphasized and admitted that the mistake was committed but said that Catholic religious people are not to be blamed for this crime. The head of the Anglican Church of Ireland, Archbishop Alan Harper mentioned the Catholic believers of Ireland are at present having a “black distress” and according to reports, he also mentioned that the statement made by the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams on the Easter weekend on the issue, did not help the matter in any way.
The Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams had on the Easter weekend commented that the Catholic Churches in Ireland are losing the credibility due to the sex scandal which has emerged. The religious believers took offense due to the statement reportedly. However, according to reports, the Archbishop of Canterbury who is the leader of the Anglican Churches had contacted Diarmuid Martin, the Catholic Archbishop of Dublin, to express regret over the statement he made in public. The Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams on Sunday Easter had reportedly maintained silence over the issue.
