easterVatican City, Apr 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) As Christians all across the world celebrate Easter today, millions of pilgrims were seen thronging the streets of Vatican in order to celebrate the day. Large number of pilgrims were present at the Easter Sunday Mass presided by Pope Benedict XVI today with the aim of commemorating the occasion. Despite the unfavorable weather conditions that prevailed on Sunday, the Easter Sunday Mass witnessed the presence of thousands of pilgrims who came to the city to attend the event.

Bracing the bad weather, large number of people were seen at the Saint Peter’s Square arriving pretty early with the aim of attending Pope Benedict’s Easter Mass, which commemorates the day of the rise of Jesus Christ from the dead. Just as the ceremony commenced, Angelo Sodano, the Dean of the college of Cardinals told the people in his speech that the faithful depended on Pope Benedict XVI while also adding that they were grateful for the courage that was showcased by the pope. The points highlighted by the Cardinal was part of the effort by the Vatican to voice its discontent over the allegations that the Catholic church as well as Pope Benedict XVI were responsible for hiding the sex abuses of children by priests.

However, the pope did not mention anything about the sex scandal rocking the Vatican these days in his Easter sermon. Meanwhile, the address of Cardinal Angelo Sodano is thought to be the very first time that the norms of the papal Easter Sunday Mass underwent a transformation in which someone was permitted to address the pope in the beginning.
