Early Learning Centre Banned Toy Pig to Avoid Offending ‘Certain’ Religions
November 16th, 2010 - 10:54 pm ICT by Angela Kaye MasonNov 16 (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a new attempt at political correctness, ‘The Early Learning Center’ has recently removed the toy pig from their ‘HappyLand Goosefeather Farm’ toy set in case it may offend religions such as Muslims, who consider the animal to be “unclean”.
The missing pig was discovered by a mom when she purchased the set for her daughter’s birthday, and saw that it came with a pig sty, which made oinking noises, but that there was no pig. She wrote to the company, requesting to be given a replacement pig for the one which she was missing, only to get a letter in return which informed her, “Previously the pig was part of the Goosefeather Farm. However due to customer feedback and religious reasons this is no longer part of the farm.”
The set still contains the chicken, a horse, a cow, and a sheep, but the pig was removed. After the complaints of disappointed American families who are shocked that “political correctness” has been allowed to go so far. One angry mom “Caroline” stated to the ‘Sun’, “This is political correctness gone loopy. Surely if someone has an issue with a toy they don’t agree with then they don’t buy it!”
The company finally relented on Monday night and agreed to bring back the American pig. “We have taken the decision to reinstate the pigs and will no longer sell the set in international markets where it might be an issue.” Customers can apply to get a free missing pig from the store’s website.
