Earl Grey drinkers complain about new taste
August 29th, 2011 - 9:36 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Aug 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Twinings has come under attack for tampering with the taste of one of Britain’s most favorite tea - Earl Grey. The company recently re-launched the tea with the name The Earl Grey.
Tea lovers in the country are in arms against the company arguing that the new flavor is nothing compared with the previous taste that made the tea one of the best known in Britain. The website of the company has been flooded with several posts from customers registering their displeasures.
One of the many scathing comments read “I cannot describe how awful this new tea tastes. The old award-winning tea was in a completely different league to this foul-tasting dishwater.”
Another post on the website seconded the many protests registered. It read, “‘I agree with the other posts here that the new Earl Grey is an awful disappointment! Bring back the old recipe that was refreshing and flavoursome.”
A campaign to get the old flavor back has been launched on the Internet. The Facebook page “Bring Back the Original Twinings Earl Grey Tea,” has several fans.
Twinings is Britain’s leading tea maker. The company is credited with driving the revolution of tea in the country about 300 years ago.
