Dutch train station evacuated over suspicious suitcase
September 24th, 2010 - 6:55 pm ICT by BNO NewsTILBURG, NETHERLANDS (BNO NEWS) — Police in the Dutch city of Tilburg on early Friday afternoon evacuated a busy train station after a suspicious suitcase was found, authorities said.
The small metal suitcase or box was found just before 11 a.m. local time at Platform 1 of the Tilburg Central train station, located in the south of the Netherlands near the border with Belgium. Police later decided to evacuate the entire station.
Hundreds of people could be seen waiting outside of the station as they waited for the package to be cleared or for alternative transportation. Scores of emergency responders, including an explosive ordnance disposal team, were also at the scene.
A message on the website of Dutch Railways said it estimated that the disruption would be cleared at approximately 2.30 p.m. local time.
