Dutch teen Laura Dekker sets sail on her epic voyage

Den Osse, Aug 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A 14 year old teen - Laura Dekker is trying to become the youngest to sail around the world after starting her journey on Tuesday. She said that she was more thrilled than scared about her epic voyage all around the world.
She started her journey from the Den Osse port in southwestern part of the Netherlands after gaining permission by the Dutch Authorities who were concerned that she was under-age to sail all around the world. Laura said that she was happy to undertake the journey and hopes to begin by stopping in Portugal in the company of her father, who will go along with her to make sure his daughter enjoys a safe journey.
The teenager was wearing a black t-shirt and white pants, when she set sail. Numerous journalists and a couple of friends and family members were on hand to bid her farewell amidst cheers in her harbor town, where she lives with her father and dog - Spot.
The teenager said she was aware of the challenges ahead and will give the journey her best shot in order to set a new record. The previous record is held by Jessica Watson, a teenager from Australia. She has just over 2 years to complete her voyage before she turns 17 years, which will be in September 20, 2012. She was given the permission to sail in court after a 10-month legal battle.
