Volcano Eruption AMSTERDAM (BNO NEWS) — Dutch authorities are investigating a small plane that breached the country’s airspace on Friday afternoon, police said on Saturday.

The small plane was picked up by radar around 2 p.m. local time on Friday, near the city of Nijmegen, and approached German airspace. Airspace in the Netherlands has been closed to all aircraft since Thursday 6 p.m. local time due to a giant cloud of volcanic ash from Iceland.

The KLPD - the country’s national police force - identified the aircraft but has not yet identified the pilot. “The pilot will be interviewed at a later time,” the KLPD said. It said the case would be send to the court in Haarlem, where all airspace-related violations are handled.
