AMSTERDAM (BNO NEWS) — Two people were arrested at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport after a fight on board an airliner from the Canary Islands, Dutch police said on Tuesday.

The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee said the incident happened aboard a flight from Las Palmas to Amsterdam. They said an argument erupted between two groups of passengers about the lightning of a cigarette.

The argument eventually led to a fight between a 24-year-old woman from Amsterdam and a 21-year-old man from Apeldoorn, a city about 60 miles southeast of Amsterdam. The flight crew was able to separate the two.

As soon as the plane landed at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee took the two into custody. They were later released.
