Dutch police arrest American pilot who consumed too much alcohol
September 15th, 2010 - 1:28 am ICT by BNO NewsAMSTERDAM (BNO NEWS) — An American pilot was arrested at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on Tuesday after police discovered he had consumed too much alcohol before his scheduled flight, authorities said.
The National Police Services Agency said the 52-year-old male from Woodbury, New Jersey was arrested in cooperation with the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee. He was taken into custody in the cockpit of his plane, which was of an unidentified foreign airline.
“On the basis of an anonymous tip, the arrest took place on board the aircraft that would leave this afternoon,” a police statement said. “The results of the breath analyze was 0.23 promille while the aviation industry allows a maximum of 0.2 promille.”
Authorities said the pilot, whose identity was not released, had consumed too many alcoholic drinks before his flight. “Ten hours prior to a flight, flight crew is not allowed to consume alcohol,” police added.
The country’s Prosecutor’s Office decided to give the pilot a fine of 700 euros (908 dollars) which he paid immediately. He was then released.
