DORDRECHT (BNO NEWS) — Dutch authorities on Thursday issued an Amber Alert for a missing 12-year-old girl, the third time such an alert was issued since the system was launched in the country on November 11, 2008.

Amalia Boele (known as Millie), 12, went missing from her home in the city of Dordrecht on Wednesday afternoon, shortly after she had a phone call with her mother at 5.30 p.m. local time. “When her mother arrived home at 6.30 p.m., Millie had disappeared,” police said.

Shortly after the girl was reported missing, local police sent a text message to residents in an appeal for information. “The sms-alert resulted in several tips which are being investigated,” police said in a statement. A helicopter has also been used to search the nearby area, so far without results.

A Dutch newspaper, De Telegraaf, cited unconfirmed reports as saying that the girl may have been abducted. Police say a crime is a possibility, but have not released any other details.
