dubai Dubai, Apr 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A Dubai appeals court ratified the one-month prison sentence for the British couple who were caught kissing. The British couple was having a dinner with friends at the Bob’s Easy Diner near the Jumeirah Beach. An Emirati woman who was also present in the restaurant with her family, complained to the authorities about their public display of affection. In their defense, the British couple said that it was a mere peck on the cheek. However the authorities were not convinced by their defense, and they were arrested in November 2009.

The British couple – Ayman Najafi and Charlotte Adams, have been convicted on a charge of inappropriate behavior. They have a month’s time to make a second appeal, and in case they decide against it, then the authorities would put them behind bars for a month, and then eventually deport them too. Since they were also imbibing alcohol at that time, so they would also be fined $300.

Even though Dubai is quite cosmopolitan in nature, and have pretty relaxed social norms, compared to the conservative and religious culture of the Gulf. But the authorities still pursue people who still flout the cosmopolitan’s Dubai rules.
