July 14, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): An Australian drunken man tried to climb a crocodile in a zoo after he was thrown out of a pub. He climbed the barbed wire around the Broome Crocodile Park in northwest Australia. He luckily survived his encounter with the 5m (16ft) long crocodile.

Fatso, the crocodile bit the 36-year-old drunken man’s leg and tore chunks of flesh from him as he tried to sit on the reptile. Police informed that the man is recovering in hospital from the serious wound and had to undergo surgery.

The man got drunk excessively so he was thrown out of a pub in the town of Broome. Police did not disclose his name but informed that he tried to sit on the 800kg (1,800lb), huge saltwater crocodile.

It could have been fatal condition if it had been warmer with Fatso being more vigilant.

Speaking to the media, Sgt Roger Haynes of Broome police, said, “Fatso became very angry by the man’s act and spun around to bite him on the right leg. The crocodile then allowed him to leave and he somehow managed to leave the wildlife park scaling the fence.”

Malcolm Douglas, the owner of the park stated that the crocodile could crush a man to death with a single bite. He added, “The drunken man was lucky to be alive as Fatso was little more sluggish at that time because of the cooler nights in Broome now.”

He further said, “No man would have tried to ride a 5m crocodile in their right minds. Once the Saltwater crocodiles get hold of a person, they are known for not letting the person go.”

The man ran back to the pub again while he was bleeding heavily. The pub manager Mark Phillips was informed about the return of this man again at 11 pm with flesh gouged out of his limbs.

Mr Phillips informed, “Chunks of his flesh from legs were torn out.”

The man was said to be a tourist from eastern Australia.
