June 5, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Andrew Koppel, son of famous broadcaster of ABC’s show ‘Nightline’, Ted Koppel was found dead at a friend’s apartment in Manhattan, early Monday morning, at around 2am. He was Ted Koppel’s third child and the only son with wife Grace Ann.

It is suspected that excessive drinking caused his death. As the reports say Andrew, started drinking early in that morning with some friends and went on till around 11PM, moving from one bar to another. He supposedly drank straight whiskey.

Russel Wimberly, a friend of Koppel said that Andrew was so messed up when they arrived at the bar, that he had to take him to the rundown apartment which was owned by Belinda Caban, who also lived there. Caban stated that she couldn’t understand anything that Koppel was trying to say, so they took him to the bedroom and laid him down.

Later, they discovered that he was not breathing and called 911. New York Police Department found him unconscious and shortly after pronounced him dead. The cause of his death was not confirmed but there was no evidence of crime. Autopsy results are still pending, and the police department declares that an in depth investigation will be done this week to find out the exact reason of Koppel’s death.

Koppel’s longtime girlfriend Ilona Lieberman used to live with him, with her daughters, Alice and Michelle. They released their grief in a statement saying that Andrew was a generous, loving person and concerned father and friend.
