Dr. Keith Black Awarded BET Honors Award For Public Service

Washington, Feb 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The BET Honors took place on Jan 16, but was aired on Feb 1, 2010 in BET. The award ceremony was held in the performing arts venue in Washington, D.C, and was hosted by Gabrielle Union. Every year, the BET Honors takes place in order to recognize the biggest names from various fields of activities. The awards are given out depending on the contributions made by those individuals in their respective fields of work. This year, Dr. Keith Black was among the other honorees of the award, namely, musical great Whitney Houston, actress Queen Latifah, entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs, and educator Ruth Simmons.
Dr. Keith Black received the BET Honors Award in the category of Public Service. Besides being a professor and a scientist, he has received international recognition and acclaim for his significant contributions in the field of neurosurgery. Ever since he started practicing in 1987, he has performed over 5000 operations for the resection of brain tumors. He is specially known for his technique that involves balancing state of the art research with a packed schedule. Dr. Keith Black is the Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery. Besides, he also occupies the Ruth and Harvey Chair in Neuroscience, and holds the post of the director of the Maxine Dunitz Neurosurgical Institute.
This year seems to have started out real good for Dr. Keith Black, with loads of recognition for his work. In addition to the BET Honors Award, he has received the nomination for the NAACP Image Award in the category of the Outstanding Literary Work Or Non Fiction for the authorship of “BRAIN SURGEON: A Doctor’s Inspiring Encounters With Mortality And Miracles.”
