July 12, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): In a bizarre and shocking tale of incident, a certain Texas University at the Austin student dorm was named after a prominent KKK member from the 1800s. The KKK or the infamous racist group Ku Klux Klan rose to prominent notoriety much thanks to their extreme racist attitude. The student dorm has been renamed after Simkins and is called the Simkins Residence Hall.

William Powers Jr. has decided to take ask the system board of the University to rename the hall, after a particular recommendation from an advisory group of 21 members. This was all revealed according to the University’s official press release. Gregory Vincent is the university’s VP or vice president for the diversity and community section spoke to the media that re-naming a community building after someone racist does taint the image of the university.

It has also been said that Simkins, the KKK member after whom the dorm is named, used to teach law. It’s ironical since we can’t do away with a racist law teacher anywhere in this world! Historical sources reveal that Simkins had direct links to the Ku Klux Klan right after the Civil War. He taught in Texas till he died in the year 1929. He usually spoke about spreading violence against Afro-Americans. The building bearing his name was build somewhere in the 1950s.

This is really strange and absolutely unacceptable, that an education institute in today’s world would be involved with a KKK member in some way or the other. Strict action needs to be taken so that anything bearing links to the KKK is immediately removed.
