Riyadh, Jan 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Scientists around the world have admitted that the world is more likely to experience cataclysmic disaster now than anytime else in the world. To indicate the threat, the symbolic Doomsday Clock’s arm has been moved one minute closer to midnight. The clock is now five minutes to midnight, the higher the clock has moved.

The Fukushima nuclear disaster, North Korea’s leadership change and Iran’s nuclear program are seen as increased threat to the world. The Doomsday Clock is the universally recognized indication of collapse of the world.

This is the first time that the clock has been moved in two years. In January 2010, the clock was moved back. The clock was five minutes to midnight from 2007 to 2010 but it was moved to six minutes to midnight at the beginning of 2010.

Addressing the decision to move the clock back in 2010, the scientists said that there was hope “that world leaders might address the truly global threats we face. In many cases, that trend has not continued or been reversed.”

The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists is the panel responsible for moving the hand of the clock with respect to the level of nuclear threat that the world faces.
