Donnie Wahlberg helps to get a kidney for fan through Twitter

Los Angeles, April 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) New Kids on the Block singer Donnie Wahlberg has successfully got kidney for a patient who was waiting for a match. With the help of Twitter, several people called the hospital to know whether they are a match. Donnie has about 183,000 followers on Twitter and he has more than 30,000 tweeets.

Bobbette Miller’s plight was brought to the attention of Donnie when one of his followers retweeted a blog plea urging people to donate kidney to Miller. Donnie also retweeted the tweet resulting in several calls being sent to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

After screening the potential donors, a match was found and the procedure has been scheduled. Doctors say Miller will have a new kidney come this June. Donnie was grateful to Twitter for providing the avenue.

In an interview with Boston Herald, Donnie said it was a team work that led to Miller getting a match for his failed kidney. He praised Twitter saying the success in getting Miller a kidney proves how valuable the mini blog is.

Donnie is part of the cast of the new CBS police drama titled “Blue Bloods.”
