Washington DC, May 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The United States Navy is considering using Dolphins and Sea Lions to patrol its waters where one of its most critical naval base is located. The plan involves deploying highly trained dolphins and sea lions from the Navy’s Marine Mammal Program in San Diego, to the Kitsap-Bangor Naval Base in Washington State. Dolphins have very good sonar ability and the Navy wishes to explore that to protect its submarines, ships and underwater laboratories at that base.

The role of the sea lion is to cuff intruder swimmers. The sea lions have been trained to use the special cuffs that have a long chain attached to it. It the creature cuffs the intruder, then the navy can then easily pull the captured intruder in, using the attached chain to the cuff.

However critics against the idea say that the dolphins in open water bodies can easily be led astray by fish or by some trap of the terrorists, so they are not reliable. Animal rights activists also believe deploying the dolphins into the chilling waters in Puget Sound might harm them. The dolphins in question are used to warmer climates.

Some Americans also just simply don’t like the idea that their security is being put in the hands of dolphins and sea lions.
