Bartow, Fla., Dec.18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) James Bain was a free man on Thursday after spending 35 years behind the bars. Following Judge James Yancey order to release the man who had spent maximum years of his life in prison, James Bain walked out of the courtroom surrounded by his family and friends. The day was indeed special for the 54 year old man who was given a life sentence way back in 1974 for allegedly abducting and raping a 9 year old boy.
James Bain, who was just 19 years old at the time of the conviction, was released after modern DNA technology revealed that he could not have been the culprit, who was responsible for carrying out such a heinous crime. His release comes following the initiative undertaken by the organization Innocence Project of Florida, that takes into account DNA evidences to address the cases of convicts who are innocent. The group got interested in the case in the earlier part of the year and the DNA examination were conducted later which proved James Bain had nothing to do with the crime, for which he had to spent decades in prison.
However, spending years in prison for a crime that he was not responsible for, has not been successful from taking away the smile from James Bain’s face, who added that despite the injustice meted out to him, he was not angry. Moreover, while reacting to his almost unexpected freedom, James Bain expressed his faith in God. Although, due to the wrong conviction, he is liable to $50,000 for each year, he added that money is not something that he is interested in. As of now, he just wants to spend time with his family.
