Birmingham, Jan 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A radio DJ Tom Binns has been fired from his job after he stopped the Queen’s Christmas message midway and said to the listeners that it was boring. Birmingham-based BRMB presenter Tom Binns stopped the broadcast of the speech during his live show on Christmas Day, saying: “Two words: Bor-ing”. Later for this action, he was fired from his job. Then he claimed that he had intended it as a joke.
The show in which this happened was being broadcast on BRMB, Wyvern in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, Mercia, in Warwickshire, and Beacon Radio in the Black Country. The stations’ owner Orion Media fired the DJ because he said that a number of listeners had complained about it.
However Tom Binns tried to clarify that, “I was working on my own on Christmas Day; I’d even had to let myself into the studio. After the guy before me finished, we should have taken the news from Sky, and then my show would start,” Binns told the Chortle comedy website.
“But instead of the news, we got the Queen’s speech. I knew it shouldn’t be there, but having never heard it before, I didn’t know how long it was going to go on for.
“I’m not trained to make editorial decisions, but I decided to get rid of it and make a joke. I said, ‘Two words: bor-ring’. And after cutting short her speech he played the song ‘Last Christmas.’
