Diamond Bar fire started by a truck

November 4th, 2009 - 7:50 pm ICT by Aishwarya Bhatt Tell a Friend -

Diamond Bar fire Diamond Bar, Nov 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Fire crews from Los Angeles County, Chino and Ontario are braving their own lives to set out a brush fire on Tuesday afternoon. The fire was said to threaten homes and locals say that the fire may have started in six to seven different locations.

The fire is suspected to have started from a truck. An off-duty police officer spotted embers coming from the under a white, Ford F-150 truck on the 60 Freeway shortly after the blaze started. The officer acted fast and immediately pulled the truck over at Euclid and concluded that the catalytic converter was on fire.

‘The driver was unaware of the situation and was not being investigated’, according to the Ontario Police Department.

Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Steve Zermeno says that, ‘fire crews received reports around 11:45 a.m. that five to eight separate fires were burning near the 60 Freeway’.

“It looked like every 500 yards someone had taken a Molotov cocktail and thrown it off the freeway,” said Retha Quince, who was driving home when she saw the smoke coming from the fires.

“It’s more than likely that this was an accident, and no arrests will be made,” said Nicole Nishida, a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
