Dec.26, (THAINDIAN NEWS) When we turn back to the pages of history of some treacherous acts, Richard Reid is a name to reckon with. The historic act of of Richard Reid, when he indulged in the heinous crime of concealing some explosives in his shoes was an incident that happened way back in 2001, but the thought of it brings an uncanny feeling to all and sundry. He was on a flight to Miami from Paris and was caught red-handed. The flight had to change its course to Boston after the fellow passengers became aware of Richard Reid’s impish act.
Many people indulging in criminal activities seem to have Richard Reid, the shoe bomber as their role model bringing about destruction and bloodbath aimlessly. The recent incident which took place at the Detroit Metro Airport seems to have a clear reflection of the hideous act of Richard Reid of almost a decade ago. Richard Reid, a resident of Britain and touted to have Al-Qaeda link, was under a trial and was subjected to life-long imprisonment. Such an astonishing incident called for the security to be more strict and vigilant at the airports.
Another attempt to hijack a flight, namely NWA flight 253, was thwarted, but the evil-doer tried to lit some explosives which again traces back to the incident involving Richard Reid. Sources claim that the material was a dusty, powdery substance. Sources also state that the Nigerian who boarded the flight as a passenger had ignited his own self in the perilous fire, for which he suffered burns. Richard Reid seems to loom large in the background as the inspiration for the abhorred acts of terror.
