Washington, Jan 9 (THAINDIAN NEWS) It is said that what does not kill you, makes you strong. That statement is true regarding the US auto market. When the worst recession in the history of the United States struck, it was feared that the industry was going down.

Almost four years later, the industry has bounced back and the evidence is clear at the Detroit Auto Show currently ongoing. On Sunday, the public paid $500 per head to have the chance to view luxury cars ahead of the opening of the show on Monday.

The North American International Auto Show 2012 is already been touted as the biggest in recent years. Almost all the major automakers are represented at the event. This is the first time in three years that Nissan is coming back to the show.

Mercedes, BMW and Lexus join other auto makers to showcase their hybrid cars. Analysts believe this year’s event will be used to highlight cars that promote fuel economy.

Jessica Caldwell who is a senior analyst of Edmunds.com told explained that, “Now everyone is talking about it. It doesn’t matter what segment you are in, it always gets mentioned. The consumer has changed, those mpg numbers matter now, they’ve seen what happens when gas prices rise.”
